We are pleased to announce NMCI Services are offering a scheduled STCW A-VI/6 (6) Designated Security Duties course on Friday, December 12th at the National Maritime College of Ireland.
It is intended that those attending this course will be serving seafarers that are likely to be designated with security duties in connection with the Ship Security Plan. Serving seafarers in this case would be currently serving at sea, or persons who would have their qualifications other than security training ‘in-date’. All interested parties must produce proof of seatime, by way of Discharge Book/Seaman’s Book. Declarations of Sea Service will not be accepted.
- Venue: National Maritime College of Ireland, Ringaskiddy, Cork
- Time: All course participants must report to the NMCI reception no later than 08.45am on Friday 12th. Course will start at 0900hrs and finish at 1700hrs.

Trident Safety Group will host their first International seminar in Ireland at the NMCI on February 23rd entitled Dangerous Goods by Sea.
The SEAsafe Seminar will allow delegates the unique insight into the New IMDG 2012 Code and the implications for shippers of Dangerous Goods.
The International Panel of Dangerous Goods Experts will be on-hand to answer any of your queries and they will be giving their views and Expert Advice on the all aspects of shipping Dangerous Goods under the IMDG/IMO Code.

Mr Stephan Wrage from SkySails will make a presentation on his company’s innovative product – SkySails in the NMCI Auditorium at 5pm on Wednesday 18th January.
This event will be preceded by an international workshop on STCW10 under the auspices of the Marleanet project.
SkySails GmbH is the market and technology leader in the field of automated towing kite systems. Some 80 employees representing a wide range of disciplines and specialties – from aerospace engineers, to software developers, shipbuilders, management professionals and CNC operators – all help to develop, manufacture and market the worldwide patented SkySails technology.
SkySails kites are the key technology for capturing the vast potential of high-altitude winds and SkySails is the first company in the world that has succeeded in developing towing-kite technology into an industrial application.
The company’s main business segment SkySails Marine offers wind propulsion systems for ships. The latest product generation SKS C 320 can replace up to 2 MW of the main engine’s propulsion power. The company’s second business segment SkySails Power develops and markets systems for generating power from high-altitude wind.

President Mary McAleese received a rousing reception at the Haulbowline Naval Base and the National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI) on Monday October 10th, as part of her final official visit to Cork.
The NMCI is a partnership between Cork Institute of Technology, the Irish Navy and Lend Lease. As the visit was the first leg of her visit to the Irish Navy she was greeted by a 100 person Guard of Honour, a spectacular site at the main entrance to the NMCI.
The President was escorted around the college by Commodore Mark Mellett, Flag Officer Commanding the Naval Service.
The President was wowed by the facilities in NMCI, including the hi-tech bridge simulator which mimicked being on board a Navy vessel as it navigated around Sydney Harbour.
President McAleese capped off her visit by boarding the LÉ Niamh which passed Monkstown, Passage West, Blackrock and Mahon much to the delight of the schoolchildren lining route.
The President left a very positive message for the NMCI partnership in our visitors book;
