Rear Admiral Nick Lambert to give lecture at NMCI, Thursday December 17th

Posted: December 14, 2015

On Thursday December 17th at 12.00 – 12.40 Rear Admiral Nick Lambert (Ret) will give a lecture in the NMCI Auditorium on the role of the Royal Navy ship HMS Endurance in the Antarctic. It should be a really good lecture and it is open to everyone so please spread the word.

Rear Admiral Nick Lambert

Nick joined the Royal Navy as a seaman in March 1977. He gained an honours degree in Geography at the University of Durham in 1983.

He has spent much time at sea on HM Ships including Birmingham, Ark Royal, Cardiff and has commanded HMS Brazen and HMS Endurance.

He commanded the ice patrol ship HMS ENDURANCE from 2005-2007, deploying for two fascinating and deeply rewarding seasons in Antarctica. Promoted in February 2007, he commanded Task Force 158 in the North Arabian Gulf, tasked with the protection of Iraq’s economically vital offshore oil infrastructure. Thereafter he was Deputy Flag Officer Sea Training from 2008 to 2009 before assuming the role of Assistant Chief of Staff Operations and Capability Integration in November 2009 in the Navy Command Headquarters. Promoted to Rear Admiral, he became the UK National Hydrographer on 19 August 2010.

RTÉ 2 – Tested on Humans

Posted: December 8, 2015

Tested On Humans, RTÉ 2 , Monday December 14th at 9pm

We were delighted to be involved in the filming of the series Tested on Humans which was aired last night on RTÉ 2. Claire and Keith will take the Helicopter Escape Test on the next episode which will air on December 14th. Tested On Humans is a brand new two-part series from ShinAwiL featuring two exciting test subjects radio host Keith Walsh (Breakfast Republic and The Gun Show) and model/slash daredevil Claire Tracey.

Tested On Humans has thrown these two unsuspecting test subjects together to test their mind, body and nerves in a wide range of situations. The tests were formulated by the brightest and best experts in their fields of expertise. Thanks to our human guinea pigs, viewers will get to experience these tests from the comfort of their couch and with zero inconvenience.

“ShinAwiL are proud to bring the Irish viewers Tested on Humans and show how the human endurance can actually be very entertaining”, says Larry Bass CEO of ShinAwiL.

Keith and Claire have been tested scientifically, physically mentally and emotionally for your viewing pleasure with tests that include the following:

The Abduction Test – Without warning we arranged a full Tiger Kidnapping of Claire and Keith and put them through what it would feel like in a real abduction situation.

The Mind Test – We delve deep into the brain using NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and install phobias that didn’t exist before.

The Pain Test – We put the age old argument to rest, who can handle pain better? Men? Or women? By making Keith and Claire wear weighted pregnancy bellies for days and then simulating labor pains.

The Extreme Food Test – We explode Keith and Claire’s senses by using two mystery chefs challenging them to come up with inventive ways to eat the most extreme flavors in the world. These include the smelliest fish in the world and the hottest chilies on the planet.

The Clean Test – We forced our two presenters not to wash, we then took readings from their dirty little hands to see exactly what they picked up from the world around them.

The Wingate Test – Both Keith and Claire are pushed to their absolute physical limit when put through their paces with a test designed for professional athletes.

The Helicopter Escape Test – Our two get to feel what it’s like to escape from a simulated helicopter crash at the National Maritime College of Ireland

The Heat Test – Claire and Keith are put through a series of fire scenarios where they will get up close with temperatures up to 1000 degrees and have to save a victim from a smoke filled room.

The Balance and Influence Test – We pit Keith and Claire against each other in Queens University Belfast where they will experience the ultimate in VR technology to test their balance.

Posted: November 18, 2015

Last week, Abu Dhabi Ports – the master developer, operator and manager of ports and industrial zones in the Emirate, participated in Maritime Academic Conference & Expo 2015 (MARACAD) which was held on November 10th and 11th at Dubai World Trade Centre.

Our Simulation Services Manager, Clive Hotham, was invited to support our client (Abu Dhabi Ports Maritime Training Centre) at their stand for MARACAD.

Abu Dhabi Ports’ internationally recognised Maritime Training Centre that offers a portfolio of marine and port training courses presented its higher level courses at MARACAD. The Centre is a leading training facility in the region and the first GCC maritime training institute to pass a Lloyd’s Register audit and be officially accredited as an Approved Training Provider. The Training Centre, established in 2011, offers courses on par with international standards that are not otherwise available in the region. The courses have been accredited by the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (UK MCA) and recognised by IALA-AISM, a non-profit, international technical association. Internationally recognised instructors are conducting the courses using ship, RADAR and ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display & Information System) simulation. The centre offers a number of security related training courses including Port Facility Security Officers (PFSO) authorised by the national security authority of the UAE; and the General Authority for the Security of Ports, Borders and Free Zones. These courses, for those involved in port security, have been accredited by the Federal Transport Agency as approved training courses. A number of courses in navigation, ship handling chart work and local knowledge for ship’s officers and pilots are also offered, using the ship and radar simulators.
