This day last week the NMCI was a hive of activity. Over 900 visitors attended the annual NMCI Open Day on Thursday Nov 7th 2019. Secondary school students travelled from all over Ireland, and further, to see our impressive facilities first hand.

Students sailed to different ports around the world, in various sea conditions, in the NMCI’s many bridge simulators. They also viewed NMCI staff create a storm in the sea survival pool, with wind, rain, waves, thunder and lightning. All throughout the day tours took place in our engine rooms, simulators, sea survival pool, labs and workshops.

Students had the opportunity to speak with lectures, NMCI students, INS personnel and staff and 50 representatives from shipping companies and organisations. With so many opportunities available in maritime careers this was an excellent chance to speak with people from diverse backgrounds working within this industry. Our thanks to all those who visited the NMCI and to those who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the event such a success (Noreen!). We hope to meet many of you again in the near future as NMCI Students!

NMCI Services extended a warm welcome to Neven Maguire and his crew to the college today. Neven is one of Ireland’s best-loved chefs. The restaurateur and media personality was filming for his upcoming series, Neven’s Seafood Trails. This seven part series will be aired on RTE1 early 2020. Neven experienced the training mariners undergo here at the NMCI in our 360-degree full mission bridge simulator, sea survival pool and fire yard. Neven’s sea legs did not let him down!
We’re looking forward to seeing the show next year and wish Neven and his team the very best of luck with the show!
