By Vincent Ryan

Thursday, November 22, 2012

Cork is seeking to capitalise on its energy resources, both conventional and renewable, through the establishment of Energy Cork.

The new energy cluster will be launched on the Dec 7 by the Energy Minister Pat Rabbitte at a major industry event featuring leading speakers from the oil and gas industries as well as from the renewable sector.

Project manager for Energy Cork, Pat Lettice, said that the cluster was planning on bringing everyone involved in the energy industry together for the benefit of the region.

“Energy Cork’s remit is a very broad church, we have speakers from conventional, oil and gas, as well as the renewable sector. If you are at all operating in the energy sector we would like to have you there. The cluster is going to be about stimulating economic and job creation in the Cork region,” he said.

The conference will formally mark the beginning of Energy Cork’s activities as an industry-driven cluster pursuing co-ordinated actions to strengthen enterprise and support job creation within the sector in the Cork region.

Speakers at the launch will include the newly appointed CEO of Eirgrid Fintan Slye; CEO of Providence Resources Tony O’Reilly; chief executive of Bord Gáis John Mullins; principal investigator, Environmental Research Institute, University College Cork, Brian Ó Gallachóir; lead executive, Phillips 66, Neill O’Carroll; and director of product development, ServusNet Informatics Ltd, Seán Condon.

lPlaces for this industry event are limited and registration is essential. To register for this free event, simply email Kieran Lettice, Energy Cork’s project manager at kieran_lettice@external.corkcity.ie before Dec 3 confirming your contact details and indicating that you would like to attend.
