Course:                 Iceberg Simulation and Passenger Ship Evacuation: Team building.

Date:                     Saturday, 21 April 2012.

Time:                    10.30 am.

Location:             National Maritime College of Ireland, Ringaskiddy, Cork.

Schedule:

10.30:                    Arrive NMCI.  Welcome. Health and Safety Briefing.

10.30-11.00:        Complete application forms and undergo familiarisation.

11.00-11.30:        Lecture: The Hazards of Ice at Sea.

11.30-12.30:        Simulation commencing in Cobh.

12.30:                   Evacuate ship and commence water-based teambuilding.

13.45:                   Debrief in restaurant for a light lunch and refreshments.

SNO attains OPITO Approval for TEMPSC Offshore Lifeboat Coxswain training

SNO Attains Offshore Lifeboat Coxswains OPITO Approval

SEFtec NMCI Offshore is delighted to announce that we have achieved OPITO approval in Offshore Lifeboat Coxswain Training for 4 of our courses.

The 4 courses which have achieved the approval and will commence at the NMCI in the coming months are as follows:

  • OPITO Offshore Lifeboat Coxswains Course Initial Twinfall (TEMPSC)
  • Supplementary Freefall Lifeboat Training
  • Offshore Lifeboat Coxswains Refresher Twinfall
  • Supplementary Refresher Freefall Lifeboat Training

On completion of the coxswain course delegates will be competent in the following areas:

  • Roles and Responsibilities of the offshore training – Lifeboat Coxswain
  • Maintaining Readiness and Preparing TEMPSC
  • Preparing to Launch and Launching TEMPSC

Renewable UK – Marine Safety Training

The Renewable UK Marine Safety Training (MST) course  will commence at the NMCI in February 2012.

The MST is designed to meet the basic training and competence requirements for all personnel transiting and transferring to and from offshore renewable facilities.

The course has approval from Renewable UK (formerly known as BWEA) which is the voice of wind and marine energy and the UK’s leading trade association representing the interest of the renewable power sector.  This training standard has been developed in consultation with key industry representatives covering OEM’s, developers, training providers, construction and supply chain partners and key industry stakeholders.

On successful completion of training the delegate will be deemed to have demonstrated basic knowledge and understanding of:

• General health and safety duties of employers to provide training and ensure competence of employees

• Personal responsibilities of employees and the self employed

• Overview of legislation relevant to offshore operations

• Offshore hazards

• Role of IMO MCA HSE & MAIB

• General standards of conduct for vessel operations

• PPE requirements for vessel transit & transfer

• Procedure for reporting incidents, accidents and near misses for offshore operations

• Housekeeping risks relevant to vessel operations

• Safe methods of personnel transfer to and from a vessel

• Safe methods of equipment transfer to and from a vessel

• Appreciate relevance of different turbine designs (size/layout) to transfer methods

• Appreciate relevance of different company/site specific H&S procedures and rules

• Recognition of the signs symptoms, and understanding of first responder actions to hypothermia and ingestion of water.

• Procedures for vessel emergencies

• Procedures for facility emergencies

• Procedures for rescue and recovery at sea

• SAR helicopter passenger safety and emergency actions

• Basic first aid actions and common equipment in the marine environment.

2012 Refresher Training Courses at the NMCI

Marine Data Communications & Networking Course Launched

NMCI will launch its new Marine Data Communications & Networking course in January 2012.  The course runs for 13 weeks with classes taking place one night a week, starting at 6.30pm and finishing at 9.30pm at NMCI. The first class will take place on the 16th of January.

The course will be delivered by Arnaud Disant who has been an IT Professional Service Engineer since 1992. Mr Disant has experience in Messaging, Identity Management, Marine IT as well as Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), mentoring and has a strong background in IT training (including electronic messaging, identity management and Internet technologies), he has delivered lectures in English and in French throughout Europe, the United States and Australia.

Full course dates below:

January: 16th, 23rd and 30th
February: 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th
March: 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th

April: 23rd, 30th

OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the course a student should be able to build a computer from bare components, install an operating system of his choice on it, and configure it. Delegate will be able to build crimp from parts a network cable, connect the computer to the Internet, install a navigation system of his / her choice, including charts and at least one peripheral such as GPS, AIS, etc…

DELIVERY MODE

The above objective is the minimum required at the end of the course.

The agenda above can be delivered in two methods, basics & advanced, the difference lays in the amount of time spent on some modules such as radar integrator boards “RIBS”, moxas, splitters, converters isolators and how in depth certain protocol is covered.

The course is delivered over 13 sessions which includes lab work.  There is two ways in which the course can be delivered, evenings or compressed into a week.
